British newspaper on Line, TimesOnline, introduced a remarkable new trend among Japanese men "herbivorous men/girly men" as follows (2. Nov., 2009): "Girly men of Japan just want to have fun" http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/w "Two phrases have been coined to describe them: soshokukei danshi or “herbivorous males”, and Ojo-man – or “girly men”. Definitions vary, but the new herbivores could be described as metrosexuals without the testosterone. Although most of them are not homosexual they have in common a disdain for the traditional accoutrements of Japanese manhood, and a taste for things formerly regarded as exclusively female. Girly men have no interest in fast cars, career success, designer labels and trophy women. Instead, they hold down humble jobs, cultivate women as friends rather than conquests and spend their free time shopping at small boutiques and pursuing in Japan what is regarded as a profoundly feminine pastime: eating cakes. Sociologists worry about the effect on the shrinking population of a generation of men who are not interested in girls. Marketeers ponder how to sell to this new, unfamiliar demographic. Cultural commentators have produced volumes attempting to explain the phenomenon to the rest of Japan, with titles such as Love Study of Herbivores, The Men Who Wear Bras and the Women Who Don’t and Herbivorous Girly Men Are Changing Japan. Japanese women, according to Professor Yamada’s research, have not caught up. Two out of five say they wish to marry a man who earns at least 6 million yen (£40,000) a year — but such men make up only 3.5 per cent of the eligible population. The result of such unrealistic female expectations is a generation of men, and women, who may never marry and have children. About half of men aged 20 to 34, he says, are unmarried and only 20 per cent of them have girlfriends. Thirty per cent, according to Professor Yamada, have never had a girlfriend in their lives. For a country like Japan, which already has a shrinking population, this is a disaster. “I worry that herbivorous boys are the future of Japan,” he says. “As young Japanese men become more timid and more averse to taking risks, it will affect the energy and vitality of the society.” |

After arguing that censorship is evil in all its aspects, Karl Marx concludes: ‘That which is in general bad, remains bad, no matter which individual is the carrier of badness, whether a private critic or an employee of the Government. Only in the latter case, the badness is authorised and regarded from above as necessary in order to bring to realisation the good from below.’ (MEGA I, 1, i, p. 165; MEW 1, p. 17) So, Marx in his youth in 1840s already criticised the Soviet censorship. He writes in the Rheinische Zeitung discussion of press freedom and censorship: "From the standpoint of the Idea, it is self-evident that freedom of the press has a justification quite different from that of censorship, in so far as it is itself a form of the Idea, of freedom, a positive good, whereas censorship is a form of bondage, the polemic of a Weltanschauung of appearance against the Weltanschauung of the essence. It is something merely negative in character." (MEGA, I, 1, i, p. 201; MEW 1, p. 50) |

Today, 9th of August, is the Day of atomic bombing in Nagasaki. The mayor of Nagasaki city, Tomihisa Taue, read "Nagasaki Peace Declaration 2009" during the celemony: "We, as human beings, now have two paths before us. While one can lead us to “a world without nuclear weapons,” the other will carry us toward annihilation, bringing us to suffer once again the destruction experienced in Hiroshima and Nagasaki 64 years ago. This April, in Prague, the Czech Republic, U.S. President Barack Obama clearly stated that the United States of America will seek a world without nuclear weapons. The President described concrete steps, such as the resumption of negotiations on a new Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START) with the Russians, pursuit of the U.S. ratification of the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty (CTBT), which bans all nuclear explosions in the air, the sea, underground and in outer space, and seeking to conclude a treaty to ban the production of highly enriched uranium and plutonium, both essential components of nuclear weapons. The President demonstrated strong determination by saying that “as the only nuclear power to have used a nuclear weapon, the United States has a moral responsibility to act,” which profoundly moved people in Nagasaki, a city that has suffered the horror of atomic bombing. President Obama’s speech was a watershed event, in that the U.S., a superpower possessing nuclear weapons, finally took a step towards the elimination of nuclear armaments. ... 61% of the U.S. nation seem to be indoctrinated to accept the legitimacy of the Government's atomic bombings. But, they should accept the real fact that not those bombs, but Soviet Union's entry in the war against Japan brought Japanese Government's surrender in the end. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soviet_inva The Soviet Union formally declared war on Japan on August 8, 1945, and the invasion began at dawn on 9th. Even after the Japanese authority received the report of Hiroshima's damage, they did not decide to accept the Potsdam Declaration and were still prepared to battles on the homeland of Japan. They were foolishly looking to Joseph Stalin for intermediation. CBS News - Poll: WWII Atom Bombs "Right Thing to Do" (Aug. 3, 2009) - 61% of Americans Agree With Use of Nuclear Weapons to Bring WWII to End; One in Five Say Truman Made Mistake - (AP) A majority of Americans surveyed believe dropping atomic bombs on Japan during World War II was the right thing to do, but support was weaker among Democrats, women, younger voters and minority voters, according to a poll released Tuesday. The Quinnipiac University poll found 61 percent of the more than 2,400 American voters questioned believe the U.S. did the right thing. Twenty-two percent called it wrong and 16 percent were undecided. Among voters over 55 years of age, 73 percent of those surveyed approved the decision while 13 percent opposed. Sixty percent of voters 35 to 54 approved, while 50 percent approved among voters 18 to 34 years old, according to the poll. http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2009/08/0 |

Having observed Obama Adiministration's diplomacy, one thing is becoming to be clear that the government has aimed at taking on some countries which had turned to Washington's enemies during Bush's 8 years, in doing so they are ascertaining which countries are their true enemies which need to be crushed by American diplomatic power and/or armed force. Now it is in the process of narrowing down the targets of smashes. |

New novel by Haruki MURAKAMI "1Q84" was recently published. English "Q"'s pronounciaton is same with Japanese "9". So, this is the story about the year 1984. As far as I read reviews of this book, I guess, this is influenced from George Orwell's anti-utopia work "1984". Latter one was under influence of Е. Замятин's "Мы" to some extents. So, it can be said that one of roots of Murakami's idea of "1Q84" lies in Замятин's "Мы", I suppose. |

If one replaces 'philosophers' by 'интеллигенты' and German by Soviet, and thus poses the question about the real function of the Soviet интеллигенция, about what they were actually doing and paid for, one invokes Marx against Marxism-Leninism. (Evert Van Der Zweerde, 'Philosophy In The Act: the socio-political relevance of Mamardashvili's philosophizing', "Studies in East European Thought", 2006, 58, p. 187) |

As prominent existentialsts Martin Heidegger, Jean-Paul Sartre, and Karl Jaspers are always named. But, for Nazist Heidegger who were the subject of existence? Of course, Jewish were out of question. It is natural to suppose that the subject of his existentialism was limited to "Aryan". No matter what he made any grand statements, his thought and idea was no more than the ultimate sophistication of Adolf Hitler's "Mein Kampf".

Now it is the time to spiflicate the North Korean regime for Northeast Asian security and peace, liberation of that nation from the constraints of the dictator, and reestalishment of Communism's honour. For this purpose, tight co-operation among China, Japan, Russia, and South Korea is essential. Obama, the US president, must understand the necessity, so they won't disturb this move. So, Tokyo should not demand the return of Kurile Islands to Russia for a while until the goal will be achieved. |

The secret behind Japan's plunging birth rate? A record 39.7 percent of Japanese citizens ages 16-49 have not had sex for over a month - up 5 percentage points from two years ago - according to a survey published this week by the Japan Family Planning Association. (AP) March 15th, 2007 By HIROKO TABUCHI, Associated Press Writer Among married couples, the rate was only slightly lower, at 34.6 percent. The survey comes amid concerns over Japan's faltering birthrate. The ratio of total live births to total population in a specified community or area over a specified period of time, often expressed as the number of live births per 1,000 of the population per year. , which fell in 2005 to a record low of 1.26 births in an average woman's lifetime. Family Planning Association said it handed out survey forms to 2,713 randomly selected people, and received responses from 636 men and 773 women in November 2006. It gave no margin of error. In a similar poll taken two years ago, 35 percent reported having no sex for a month. Japan came last in a 29-country study of sexual satisfaction published by the University of Chicago last year, with a mere 25.7 percent of lovers expressing satisfaction in bed. The country was also in last place among 41 nations in a 2005 poll by condom manufacturer Durex, with people having sex just 45 times a year compared to a global average of 103. My comment to this survey: I understand this tendency very well, because I also detest making love with women. It's really waste of time and energy. John Lennon advocated "Make Love, Not War!", but I appeal "Let's Sleep, Not Making Love, Not War!", because rise in birthrates cause military conflicts and wars. |
